HOUSEKEEPING OPERATIVE ( STEEL MANUFACTURING)
The Housekeeping Operative is part the team who look after the upkeep of the O’Carroll Engineering (OCE) facilities. This includes all work areas, car parks and surrounding landscapes. Housekeeping will be an ongoing task with specific schedules of work arranged to ensure an efficient workday. The Housekeeping Operative must ensure all OCE policies and procedures are adhered to at all times.
Main duties:
- Ensure all areas are kept clean and tidy at all times,
- Facilitate an organised work environment ensuring all areas are cleaned on a regular basis
- Ensure that all bins are emptied into the proper bins on a regular basis
- Sweep floors to remove dust, dirt etc. that will build up during normal production operations
- Ensure boilers in the canteens are full and switched on ahead of break times
- Monitor and maintain stock levels of consumables in toilets and public facilities
- Ensure recycling bins are filled and prepared for collection by the recycling company on the relevant days
- Be able to address out of schedule matters as they arise, e.g. tend to unforeseen spillages / incidents
- Monitor the main waste skip and advise stores personnel when it needs to be exchanged
- Ensure that all thoroughfares are kept clean and tidy and free from all obstructions at all times
- Liaise with safety representatives and maintenance department on issues such as blocked fire exits, materials stored in the incorrect locations, areas where housekeeping may be particularly poor, etc.,
- Action any outcomes of housekeeping audits
- Attend meetings as required
- Further the Lean Process, partake in Lean initiatives and ensure Lean principles are followed
- General ‘ad hoc’ duties as required and directed by production and facilities management.
Minimum requirements of Housekeeping Operative:
- Housekeeping or related work experience
- Excellent communication skills
- Proven ability to multi-task
- Flexibility to move between tasks
The Housekeeping Operative role requires a minimum of 39 hours per week, Monday to Friday. A reasonable level of overtime may be required at morning, evening or weekend time to ensure the fulfilment of the requirements of this role.
