Current Vacancies

Junior Estimator 

General scope of role:

Reporting to the Estimating & Technical Manager, the purpose of this role is to support the OCE growth plan by supporting and ultimately taking responsibilities for numerous varied aspects of the estimating function.

Main duties:

  • Collation and coordination of Pre-Production Only orders from estimate through to invoicing
  • Preparation of Enquiry Packages providing supplier quotes
  • Complete pricing and provide quotations for Signature Stairs products
  • Preparation of Tender Packages to clients and prospective clients for non-standard products
  • Maintain the Estimating Library
  • Conduct cost analysis following completion of jobs
  • Liaise with other departments as required to ensure smooth and efficient service delivery
  • Work to a high level of confidentiality
  • Ensure compliance with ISO9001 and EN1090

Minimum requirements of Estimator:

  • Relevant qualification, i.e. Construction Studies, Engineering
  • Understanding of quantity surveying and estimating
  • Knowledge of steel materials
  • Experience in working with architectural metal works
  • Proficient in MS Office, in particular Excel, Word, Outlook & PowerPoint
  • Proven ability to read and analyse technical drawings
  • Excellent organisational skills and proven ability to multi-task and prioritise
  • Ability to work to tight deadlines
  • Flexibility to move between projects

You will be expected to attend training courses where necessary to assist you in carrying out these duties.

The Estimator role requires a minimum of 39 hours per week, Monday to Friday. A reasonable level of overtime may be required to ensure the fulfilment of the requirements of this role.

Tekla Steel Detailer

General scope of role:

The Steel Detailer is part of the Drawing and Programming team with responsibility for creating accurate and specific technical drawings. The Steel Detailer is a senior role within the Drawing Office and is one which assumes project management responsibilities and provides guidance and leadership to the Drawing Technicians.

Main duties:

  • Create 2D and 3D drawings for use in all aspects of production, including but not limited to programming, fabrication, welding, assembly and site installation
  • Ensure all drawings are created in line with ISO9001 and EN1090 requirements
  • Liaise with clients and client representatives to ensure all jobs are completed to specifications provided with corresponding sign-off attained
  • Work with the site survey and site installation team to ensure all jobs are completed as per client requirements
  • Assign and oversee works to be carried out by Drawing Technicians
  • Maintain administrative functions associated with the drawing office

Minimum requirements of Steel Detailer:

  • Relevant qualification in architectural technology or engineering stream
  • Advanced AutoCAD qualification
  • Certification in Tekla Structures
  • Significant experience in creating, reading and interpreting technical drawings
  • Knowledge of EN1090 Standard and ISO 9001 Quality Standard
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Proven ability to multi-task and prioritise projects with ease
  • Undertake training as required

The Steel Detailer will be required to attend any training events as identified as relevant by the Company. The role may change over time in line with Company progression and expansion. The Steel Detailer will be expected to progress with any such changes.

The Steel Detailer role requires a minimum of 39 hours per week, Monday to Friday. A reasonable level of overtime including Saturdays may be required to ensure the fulfilment of the requirements of this role.

Metal Fabricator 

General scope of role:

The Metal Fabricator is part of the team of Fabricators and Welders who fit and weld steel components. The Metal Fabricator will primarily work from technical drawings to fabricate, fit and tack weld competent parts before the item is moved on for welding. The role will require the fabrication of components using a jig.

The Metal Fabricator will work under the direction of the workshop supervisors to produce components to the standard required. The Metal Fabricator is responsible for checking that their work is produced in accordance with technical drawings provided and that the component is handed over to the welder in an acceptable condition for welding. Components will be required to go through a quality control (QC) check by a member of the QC team. The Metal Fabricator must ensure all OCE policies and procedures are adhered to at all times.  

Main duties: 

  • Read and interpret technical drawings to produce steel components
  • Take measurements to ensure accuracy
  • Cutting steel as required
  • Use welder to tack components
  • Ensure components are as per the specification required
  • Work from jigs as required
  • Operate power and hand tools to complete jobs
  • Run machines as required to complete jobs
  • Maintain all health and safety standards at all times

Minimum requirements of the Metal Fabricator: 

  • Experience in the fabrication of metal components from technical drawings
  • Working knowledge of steel
  • Previous experience in a manufacturing or production environment
  • Team player
  • Proven ability to multi-task
  • Flexibility to move between projects

The Metal Fabricator role requires a minimum of 39 hours per week, Monday to Friday. Candidates must be available for shift work as required. A reasonable level of overtime may be required at morning, evening or weekend time to ensure the fulfillment of the requirements of this role.

 

Machines Operator 

General scope of role:

The Machine Operator role is to run machines in line with OCE requirements and machine operation guidelines.

Main duties:

  • Operation of CNC Drill, Plasma Cutting and Laser Cutting machines, as directed
  • Ensuring correct materials are cut in line with job specifications
  • Ensure correct quantity of items are cut in line with job specifications
  • Ongoing quality control of own work
  • Ensure sufficient flow of work for General Operative on shift
  • Assist General Operative on shifts
  • Maintain constant flow of materials to ensure maximum efficiency of machine
  • Take part in any training required for the fulfilment of the role
  • Ensure all works are being carried out in line with company and client requirements
  • Maintain a safe work environment by following all health and safety guidelines and directions at all times.

The Machine Operator role requires a minimum of 39 hours per week, Monday to Friday across three shift cycles. A reasonable level of overtime may be required to ensure the fulfillment of the requirements of this role. Metal Fabrication Apprentice

O’Carroll Engineering are recruiting Metal Fabrication Apprentices with a view to begin in Summer 2019.

 The apprenticeship will be in receipt of an apprentice wage for the duration of the course. SOLAS have set out minimum requirements to qualify for an apprenticeship scheme.
