The HGV Driver is part of the transport team responsible for the safe transportation and collection of goods for O’Carroll Engineering (OCE) projects throughout Ireland and the UK.

The HGV Driver will work closely with the Finishing, Assembly and Dispatch departments and will report to the finishing and dispatch supervisors as required.

The HGV Driver must ensure effective communication with, and follow instructions of, supervisors and OCE suppliers to ensure a smooth flow of work and to maintain trusted supplier relationships. The HGV Driver must ensure all OCE policies and procedures are adhered to at all times.

Health and Safety is a priority and therefore in the role of HGV Driver you are required to adhere to all Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) requirements and safety instructions, at all times.

Main Duties:

  • Operate HGVs in a safe and efficient manner.
  • Load and unload goods at a Killarney base, transport goods throughout Ireland and the UK as required, and load /unload goods at delivery destination.
  • Check loads are secured and safe prior to departure and carrying out safety checks while en route.
  • Comply with RSA obligations.
  • Efficient and safe route planning, follow traffic reports and adapting routes if necessary.
  • Report any accidents or incidents immediately to management, including damage to both customer and/or Company property.
  • Carry out basic routine maintenance, such as oil, tyre and brake checks, completing internal reporting on same.
  • Perform basic repairs and maintenance in the event of accident or breakdown while in transit, where safe to do so.
  • Ensure that all OCE vehicles are in a clean and safe condition, reporting any defects to the finishing supervisor as soon as they are noticed.
  • Wear correct and appropriate PPE at all times.
  • Ensure all delivery paperwork is kept safe and submitted to the finishing supervisor.
  • Communicate effectively and in a friendly manner when dealing with suppliers and customers.

Requirements of the HGV Driver:

  • Valid and clean CE Driving Licence
  • Complete, current and up-to-date Driver CPC
  • Digital Tachograph Card
  • Driver Qualification Card
  • Valid Safe Pass
  • Experience in a similar role
  • Good communication skills


The HGV Driver role requires a minimum of 39 hours per week, Monday to Friday. A reasonable level of overtime will be required to ensure the fulfilment of the requirements of this role. Given the nature of this role hours will be varied with early starts and late finishes. Flexibility in this regard is required.
