Human Resources Graduate

General scope of role:

The Human Resources (HR) Graduate is a support role within the HR Department. The HR Graduate will report directly to the Human Resources Manager and will support the management role in ensuring the department is run efficiently and effectively.

Main duties:

  • General administration support for the Human Resources Department
  • Maintenance of employee files
  • Monitor and support on-boarding tasks
  • Assist in development of employee wellbeing initiatives
  • Review timesheets and highlight anomalies to Human Resources Manager
  • Schedule and assist in the development of training programmes
  • Update and record training documentation
  • Produce and maintain Key Performance Indicator information
  • Schedule & prepare for performance management meetings
  • Act as an administrative contact and support point for HR Department
  • Support the development of the Sports & Social Club
  • Specific projects as assigned by the Human Resources Manager

Maintenance Electrician

General scope of role:

The Maintenance Electrician is part of a team who look after the maintenance of OCE assets and facilities. Maintenance can occur on a routine preventative basis or can be required on an unscheduled basis. The Maintenance Electricians will work closely with each other, and report to the Maintenance Supervisor, to ensure the smooth running of the business. This role is not restricted to electrical works and will require flexibility to carry out maintenance works across all O’ Carroll Engineering facilities. The Maintenance Electrician must ensure all OCE policies and procedures are adhered to at all times.

Main duties:

  • Actively complete scheduled and unscheduled repairs to ensure smooth running of workshop floors,
  • Update the Asset Management System (AMS) following any completed works,
  • Work with the Stores to ensure the AMS is updated,
  • Ensure all projects are carried out in line with OCE requirements,
  • Routine maintenance checks on forklifts and document same,
  • Put in place and review Timers on machines, e.g. Bandsaw, Welders, etc.,
  • Complete daily Fire Walks at the start of shift and record same in the Fire Walk Log,
  • Manage and maintain stocks of gas,
  • Act as Stores Assistant on nightshift (when required) ensuring colleagues receive required consumables, tools, PPE and all incoming and outgoing goods are accounted for,
  • Complete daily Tool Board audits at each work bay,
  • Attend meetings as required,
  • Assist in apprentice training, ensuring electrical apprentices are suitably prepared for their off-the-job phases,
  • Further the Lean Process, partake in Lean initiatives and ensure Lean principles are followed,
  • Partake in internal and external audits, as required, by the ISO9001 and EN1090 standards,
  • Undertake mechanical and other maintenance tasks,
  • General ‘ad hoc’ duties as required and directed by production and facilities management.

Minimum requirements of Maintenance Electrician:

  • Maintenance, electrical or related work experience
  • Excellent communication skills

The Maintenance Electrician role requires a minimum of 39 hours per week, Monday to Friday. A reasonable level of overtime may be required at morning, evening or weekend time to ensure the fulfilment of the requirements of this role. The Maintenance Electrician will be required to remain available for out of hours ‘call-outs’.

Metal Fabricator 

General scope of role:

The Metal Fabricator is part of the team of Fabricators and Welders who fit and weld steel components. The Metal Fabricator will primarily work from technical drawings to fabricate, fit and tack weld competent parts before the item is moved on for welding. The role will require the fabrication of components using a jig.

The Metal Fabricator will work under the direction of the workshop supervisors to produce components to the standard required. The Metal Fabricator is responsible for checking that their work is produced in accordance with technical drawings provided and that the component is handed over to the welder in an acceptable condition for welding. Components will be required to go through a quality control (QC) check by a member of the QC team. The Metal Fabricator must ensure all OCE policies and procedures are adhered to at all times.  

Main duties: 

  • Read and interpret technical drawings to produce steel components
  • Take measurements to ensure accuracy
  • Cutting steel as required
  • Use welder to tack components
  • Ensure components are as per the specification required
  • Work from jigs as required
  • Operate power and hand tools to complete jobs
  • Run machines as required to complete jobs
  • Maintain all health and safety standards at all times

Minimum requirements of the Metal Fabricator: 

  • Experience in the fabrication of metal components from technical drawings
  • Working knowledge of steel
  • Previous experience in a manufacturing or production environment
  • Team player
  • Proven ability to multi-task
  • Flexibility to move between projects

The Metal Fabricator role requires a minimum of 39 hours per week, Monday to Friday. Candidates must be available for shift work as required. A reasonable level of overtime may be required at morning, evening or weekend time to ensure the fulfillment of the requirements of this role.

Fabrication Technician 

General scope of role:

The Fabrication Technician is part of a team of Fabricators and Welders who fit and weld steel components. The Fabrication Technician will primarily work with jigs to fit and tack competent parts before the item is moved on for welding. However, the role may require the fabrication of components without the use of a jig.

The Fabrication Technician will work under the direction of the workshop supervisor to produce components to the standard required. The Fabrication Technician is responsible for checking that their work is produced in accordance with technical drawings provided and that the component is handed over to the welder in acceptable condition for welding. Components will be required to go through a quality control (QC) check by a member of the QC team. The Fabrication Technician must ensure all OCE policies and procedures are adhered to at all times.

CAD  / CAM Programmer

General scope of role:

The CAD/CAM Programmer is part of the Drawing and Programming team. The Programmer will work with the drawing, programming and cutting departments to ensure Plasma and Laser machines are programmed correctly and effectively to ensure optimisation of materials and machinery.

Main duties: 

  • Create cutting lists for Plasma, Laser and CNC Drill Machines
  • Programme cutting lists for Plasma, Laser and CNC Drill Machines
  • Input drawings on Lantek software to enable machines to read drawings
  • Ensure customer requirements are met
  • Minimise waste of materials and resources
  • Maintain administrative functions associated with the various drawings

Minimum requirements of the Metal Fabricator: 

  • Advanced CAD/CAM or AutoCAD qualification
  • Experience in programming machinery, preferably Laser, Plasma of CNC Drill machines
  • Previous experience in reading and interpreting drawings
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office
  • Excellent Excel skills
  • Fluency in the English language
  • Good written and oral communication skills
  • Proven ability to multi-task
  • Flexibility to move between projects

The machines referred to above are those in use at the time of drafting this job specification. The CAD/CAM Programmer will be required to work with and additional machinery which may be acquired by the Company.

The CAD/CAM Programmer role requires a minimum of 39 hours per week, Monday to Friday. Candidates must be available for shift work as required. A reasonable level of overtime may be required at morning, evening or weekend time to ensure the fulfillment of the requirements of this role.

Metal Fabrication Apprentice

O’Carroll Engineering are recruiting Metal Fabrication Apprentices with a view to begin in Summer 2019.

 The apprenticeship will be in receipt of an apprentice wage for the duration of the course. SOLAS have set out minimum requirements to qualify for an apprenticeship scheme.
